Scalable Care Inc signs landmark license agreement with UCSF to commercialize evidence-based mental health resources
MISSION BAY, Calif. (PRWEB) July 18, 2023 -- Scalable Care Inc, a digital health technology company focused on innovating mental healthcare using conversational AI and evidence-based digital mental health therapies, announces today the signing of its exclusive worldwide licensing agreement with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) to commercialize the web and smartphone application known as ‘GritX’. Developed at UCSF by world renowned mental health researchers, this evidence-based web and smartphone application has been trialed extensively with K-12 students, college students, parents, counselors, and therapists.
With 970 million people living with mental health disorders across the globe, the need to address mental health is critical, and yet there is a huge gap in services catering to children and young adults. In the United States, 49.5% of adolescents have had a mental disorder. Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for people ages 10-24. The combination of evidence-based mental health resources with cutting edge conversational AI technology aims to address this critical need.
“Mental health services have become more accessible, and seeking help more widely accepted, which is great progress,” says Scalable Care founder and CEO, Allen Billings. “That said, current treatment methods simply cannot meet the growing demand for services. Scalable Care’s technology enables access to mental health support for a virtually unlimited number of people, while also helping practitioners scale their services. Early trials show that the digital tools in GritX have improved mental health outcomes specifically for the underserved age group of children and young adults.”
“We’ve spent a long time developing the technology, and a specialist group we’ve helped curate is now set to take the product to market,” said Anthony Francis, the Executive Director of the Office of Technology Management and Advancement at UCSF.
GritX users learn therapeutic exercises developed by a team of experts at UCSF. Accessed via web and mobile apps, users chat with GritX, which guides them to self-help tools, exercises, and psycho-educational content. GritX teaches methods to help manage emotions, cope with trauma, resolve interpersonal conflicts, and learn self-reflection through interactive prompts.
GritX is built on an advanced AI platform developed by Scalable Care that can deliver evidence-based digital mental health resources to an unlimited number of people, at any time, in any location. The Scalable Care platform can be easily configured to deliver curated mental health journeys that target the unique needs of different demographics and populations.
The development of GritX has previously been supported by gifts and research grants, including funds from the UCSF InVent Fund, a philanthropic trust to boost the University’s most promising healthcare discoveries.
