Shopify Is Still The Best E-commerce Platform According To Leading Review Website
LONDON, Oct. 16, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- 'E-commerce platforms' is a term that most business owners in 2018 will be highly familiar with. This is because, with more and more consumers choosing to do their shopping online, more businesses than ever before are now going digital and launching their own online e-commerce store.
In fact, 11.7% of the total retail sales in the US in 2016 were completed online, generating almost $400 billion in revenue for online retailers, according to a report by the US Department of Commerce.
Because of this growing demand for online stores, e-commerce platforms are frequently coming into the spotlight, with businesses wanting to know which e-commerce platform they can use to gain an edge over their competitors. To meet this demand for information, numerous blogs and online websites have popped up to review and recommend the different platforms available.
One such website is ecommerce-platforms.com a reviewer which claims to be completely objective in their assessments and comparisons of the different platforms available. They maintain an up-to-date comparison chart which ranks the different platforms based on several criteria.
Despite constantly reassessing their chart, e-commerce platform Shopify has held the number one spot since the very beginning. Interestingly, ecommerce-platforms.com rating is at odds with worldwide use statistics, which show that the 'WooCommerce' platform is the most widely used platform, and is being run on around 28% of the global online stores.
Shopify - the second-most widely used platform - is being run on less than 10% of online stores. This suggests that, if we assume the rating offered by ecommerce-platforms.com is accurate, that many online retailers could benefit from switching platforms.
The ecommerce-platform.com overall ranking was decided after rating each platform on a scale from 1-10 for nine different factors: features, ease of use, pricing, templates & design, inventory, SEO & Marketing, payments, security, and customer support. Shopify scored high marks across the board, with a rating of no lower than 8/10 on any of these categories.
Conversely, WooCommerce ranked just fifth place, falling behind platforms Big Commerce, Volusion, and Lemonstand. It seems that WooCommerce was held back by its ease of use and pricing, which recieved ratings of just 4 and 5 respectively.
While Shopify holds the number one spot at present, it may not remain there for long, as it's been predicted that e-commerce platforms, and e-commerce more generally, will undergo huge and revolutionary changes in the years to come.
As technology advances, e-commerce is expected to evolve into a more immersive and sophisticated shopping experience, with personalization key to the customer experience. Some futurists even predict that VR (virtual reality) will play a crucial role in online shopping, with customers able to physically browse stores and try on clothes in the comfort of their own home, aided and enabled by VR headsets.
The e-commerce platforms which continually evolve and adapt to these changes, and become more technologically advanced, will likely lead the online retail world in the next few decades.
