Spotify is revealing “Wrapped,” the leading artists, albums, songs, playlists, podcasts and cultural storylines that defined how 191 million people around the world streamed music and content in 2018. And, back by popular demand, Spotify will reskin the Wrapped microsite with some shiny new features to highlight users’ personal 2018 streaming habits. We have also included an infographic and Spotify’s For The Record blog post which provides extended Wrapped 2018 data narratives.
Spotify can reveal that Drake is the most streamed artist of 2018 globally. With 8.2 billion streams in 2018 alone, the Canadian rapper is now Spotify’s most streamed artist of all time. Additionally “Scorpion” and “God’s Plan” were the most streamed album and song of 2018, respectively. Following Drake, Post Malone, XXXTENTACION, J Balvin and Ed Sheeran (Sheeran was the most streamed artist of 2017) rounded out the Top 5 list of Most Streamed Artists in the world.
Outside of the reigning favorites, some chart-breaking stars also reached the top. Ariana Grande’s 48 million plus monthly listeners raised her to the position of Spotify’s most streamed female artist, following in the footsteps of three-time winner Rihanna. Ariana dropped major hits throughout the year, including her fourth album, “Sweetener” and her latest single “thank u, next” (over 220 million streams). When looking specifically at the US, Cardi B was crowned Queen of Streams, as the most streamed female artist in the United States, followed by Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj and Halsey. Her debut album, “Invasion of Privacy” is also the #4 most streamed album of the year in the US.
