Village Dermatology raises money for local charity with annual event
Village Dermatology's Botox & Virtual Bingo event generates over $13,000 for local charity
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Nov. 11, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The 10th annual Botox & Bingo event held by Village Dermatology looked a little different this year. Given the constraints that COVID-19 has put on events, Village Dermatology decided to hold a virtual Botox & Bingo event this year instead. "Many patients look forward to this event, and it has become a staple in their calendar every year at this time," explained Jenny Sobera, MD. "We didn't want to forgo having the event this year, so we decided to try and figure out how to do this virtually."
The event involves participants playing several rounds of bingo with prizes awarded after each game. Participants could buy multiple bingo cards to increase their odds of winning each game. In recent years, Village Dermatology has had lots of participants play Botox & Bingo, which has required increasingly creative logistics to accommodate the annual event's enthusiasm. "We weren't sure how to pull off such a big event virtually, but our team figured it out, and we couldn't be happier with the event's success," explained Practice Administrator Audrey Easterwood.
Every year, Village Dermatology donates the money raised from the bingo card purchases to a local charity. The charity that received the proceeds this year was The WellHouse. The WellHouse is a charity located just outside Birmingham, AL, that helps victims of human trafficking. "Whether we want to admit it or not, human trafficking happens right here in Alabama," explained Dr. Jenny Sobera. "The WellHouse gives these individuals a place to start again because, in many cases, they cannot turn to family. Stunningly, most of the data shows that the family put the victim into this horrible situation, to begin with initially. So we feel very strongly about supporting a charity like The WellHouse that does so much work for these victims right here in Alabama."
