VitFit Survey Reveals Members Will Pay for Personalized Fitness Guidance from Club Apps
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) June 13, 2023 -- According to new research conducted by VitFit, LLC, current fitness club members are 5 times more likely to turn to 3rd party fitness apps than their club’s in-house fitness teams; but what users really want are on-the-go fitness solutions built specifically for them.
VitFit surveyed 150 fitness club members to learn how and where they get their fitness guidance. The population surveyed included all US regions, genders, and ages 18-60+ The majority of respondents were aged 18-44. The average reported household income of respondents was $61,000.
- Of the surveyed fitness club members, 63% use third-party apps for fitness guidance or for structured workouts and do not have any interaction with the fitness team at their chosen club.
- Only 16% of respondents claimed that they rely solely on the fitness team at their club through online classes, group exercise classes at the club, and personal training.
- 91% of members with an in-house personal trainer pay for additional fitness guidance through a non-fitness club app.
VitFit’s survey revealed that fitness app subscribers tend to curate their own solutions by mixing and matching apps to fit their individual needs. On average they spend $5/month on 1 or more apps. Over 40% of respondents spend over $7/month on fitness apps.
“The results are in, and our survey shows that members want a single-source solution for fitness guidance, and they want it from the pros they trust at their chosen fitness club,” said Elizabeth Robinson, Founder and CEO, VitFit. “The more customized the program, the better. With today’s advanced technology, clubs can offer mobile solutions specific to their members’ needs. Online classes were a good start, but members now want more, and they’ll pay for it.”
Survey results showed a disconnect between what users are paying for and what they want. While the majority of subscriptions are with apps that provide cardio (58%) and strength (46%) workouts that can be followed on the user’s schedule, real-time coaching of workouts was the 5th most requested feature (31%).
Respondents wanted the following features in their ideal fitness app: access to a fitness professional to answer questions (65%), a daily calendar of workouts designed specifically for them (48%), weight suggestions for strength training (45%), and pacing guidance for cardio workouts (43%).
While 65% of respondents want access to a fitness professional through a fitness app, only 4% say they currently have that access.
Fitness club members are willing to pay for more customized solutions built around their fitness level, especially if it connects them to a fitness professional at their club who could answer their questions online. On average, surveyed members say they would be willing to pay $62/month for this additional service, with the majority expecting to pay $30/month. Only 1 respondent said they would not pay anything additional for the described app. It should be noted individual sessions with a trainer were not included in the app price.
When asked if they would pay their fitness club for an app that provided the top 5 features listed above, 95% of surveyed club members answered yes.
