YMCA of the USA Names Paul McEntire Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer
CHICAGO (PRWEB) September 28, 2018 -- YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) has appointed Paul McEntire as its new Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer. McEntire is responsible for overseeing the delivery of resources and services to 2,700 YMCAs nationwide and the work of several departments at the national office.
A 22-year YMCA professional, McEntire comes to Y-USA from the YMCA of Greater Houston, where he served as President and CEO for the past four years. He joined the Houston Y in 2011 as Chief Operating Officer. During his tenure, the Houston Y opened a new resident camp and a new facility, significantly expanded the work of the International Services branch and launched Go for Green, an initiative that provides swim lessons to more than 2,500 day campers at no cost to their families. At the national level, he served on the Y-USA Board of Directors for the past two years and was a member of numerous committees and task forces.
“Paul has a proven record as one of the top operations executives in the Y, with extensive experience maximizing talent and resources to meet the most pressing social needs facing communities,” said Kevin Washington, President and CEO, YMCA of the USA. “I am excited to work with him to innovate new approaches to engaging communities and extend the Y’s impact.”
Before going to Houston, Paul served in several leadership roles with the YMCA of Florida’s First Coast in Jacksonville, including President and CEO from 2007 to 2011. He helped expand that YMCA’s reach and impact by opening four new facilities and a charter school. He previously was Executive Director of the Venice YMCA, a branch of the South County YMCA (now the Sky Family YMCA) in Florida.
“I have spent my career in the Y focused on meeting the needs of individual communities, which has been incredibly rewarding,” said McEntire. “In this new role, I look forward to working with Y leaders across the country to ensure every community we serve is a place where all people feel welcome and safe and have equal access to opportunity.”
Y-USA is a homecoming for McEntire, who is a Chicago-area native. Before starting his Y career, he was a pastor and Y volunteer. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Divinity degree from Southern Seminary.
