“Flowers In the Attic” TV Movie Premier Met with Dissapointment
(PRWEB) January 23, 2014 -- The Lifetime TV movie “Flowers In the Attic” had its premiere on Sunday night. The movie played to high expectations, but amassed low reviews.
The film is based on the 1979 novel by the same title, penned by V.C. Andrews. The story is about four siblings who live an idyllic family life until their father is killed in an accident. They and their mother are forced to live with their maternal grandparents. Once they arrive, at their new home, their lives begin to unravel. Their grandparents have a strained relationship with their mother, to say the least. Along the way there are shocking revelations of incest, cruelty, abuse, neglect, and abandonment for the siblings to deal with as they try to assimilate some sort of life while locked away in their wing of their grandparents’ mansion.
“Flowers In the Attic,” while a wildly successful novel, has been a tough one to adapt to the screen. There was a theatrically released feature in 1987 that was unsuccessful. This TV version, unfortunately, has followed suit.
According to another online review, there are acting issues (perhaps this movie should have auditioned more candidates), subject matter perspective problems, and pacing difficulties. Many film jobs may be lost by those among the crew. While the material is time-proven by the sales of the novel, perhaps this story is best left on the page and has no place on the screen.
