Gainesville, FL (PRWEB) April 28, 2014 -- The recent debate between Ken Ham and Bill Nye has left people wondering if debates between Christians and secularists give an unfair advantage to science over scripture from the start. Could it be the case that those organizing these debates are aware of the uneven footing of religious spokespeople when compared to scientific experts? For many, debating science and theology is like comparing apples to oranges.
That is what Dr. James Ivey hoped to correct in writing his book, “The Physics and Philosophy of the Bible.”
“I began writing this book because I had a nagging concern that my faith might, at least in part, be based on wishful thinking,” Ivey said. “This book came out of the extensive research I did to find the truth, even at risk to my faith. What I’ve come to realize is that there is a lot in science and classical philosophy that supports and helps explain the existence of God.”
In his book, Ivey uses Einstein's theory of relativity to suggest that it is likely that we all live forever. Quantum physics is used to show that matterless minds– spirits or souls – are very likely to exist and that the existence of material objects depends upon the presence of thinking observers, either human or divine, to perceive them. That suggests purposeful design by God, who shares part of his method of creation with his creations. Without mind as its foundation, there could be no universe.
Ivey also cross references theology with classical philosophy to show that even pre-Christian thinkers like Socrates and Plato require the existence of God if they are to produce valid arguments. Discussion of morality and justice requires the existence of an absolute, irrefutable, standard thereof and an authoritative judge.
