AccuQuilt Welcomes the "Architexture" Exhibition, a Showcase of Fiber Artwork
Omaha, NE (PRWEB) January 14, 2015 -- A new art quilt exhibition opened at the AccuQuilt Gallery this past Saturday. “Architexture,” by the Studio Art Quilt Associates of Nebraska (SAQA-NE), is an original exhibition showcasing fiber arts. The exhibition will run through the end of March.
“We are excited about this new exhibition and think people will be amazed by these fascinating art quilts. They are truly original and unique pieces,” said Steve Nabity, AccuQuilt’s CEO.
The “Architexture” Exhibition features impressive works of art by fifteen Nebraska area artists who are all putting their stamp on the art quilt by giving their own interpretation of architexture. By marrying the definition of architecture and texture, these artists designed and created fiber artwork on a diverse range of topics. This artwork includes everything from the varied textures found throughout one’s home to the diverse textures of nature.
“An art quilt is about the most flexible medium there is. You can use techniques from so many other fields, and most quilters do. But I like to stick with some basics, like it must primarily be or use cloth (preferably 2 or 3 layers) and be stitched,” said Shea Wilkinson, an art quilter whose work is part of the exhibition.
Some of the art quilts include "Swinging Bridge” by Shelly Burge, which boasts hand-dyed cotton fabrics as well as floral silk velvet fabric, and “Step Into the Past” by Peg Pennell, who uses photographic images printed on fabric.
You can view the "Architexture" Exhibition at AccuQuilt’s Gallery Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Admission to the Gallery is free. Additionally, visitors can tour the AccuQuilt headquarters and Dream Studio during the same time. The exhibition is also available online at accuquilt.com/tours/past-exhibitions/architexture-saqa.
