Accusoft Installs Solar Panels, Cuts Power Bill and Carbon Footprint
Tampa, Fla. (PRWEB) November 04, 2013 -- Accusoft, the leading provider of document, content and imaging solutions, today announces the successful installation of a solar power system in one of its buildings here in its headquarters city. The adoption of clean, renewable power is just the latest act in the company’s long history of corporate social responsibility.
A 12.4-kilowatt photovoltaic array now supplies electric power to Accusoft’s “West Annex” building during daylight hours, reducing Accusoft’s utility bill, its carbon footprint and, in a small way, the U.S. reliance on fossil fuels. With no nuclear or hydro generation in its portfolio, Tampa’s electric utility generates all of its power by burning fossil fuels, including coal, natural gas and oil.
“Everybody wins,” explains Accusoft founder and president Jack Berlin. “It’s good for the environment, it’s good for the city, and it’s good for Accusoft’s bottom line. It’s a hat-trick.” A noted local environmentalist, Berlin serves on the Parks, Recreation, and Conservation Board and ELAPP (land preservation) committee for Hillsborough County, of which Tampa is the county seat.
In addition to the lower monthly bill, Accusoft has won a large incentive rebate from the electric utility and trimmed its federal tax bill thanks to both a large tax credit and an accelerated depreciation schedule for the purchase. The system includes a realtime monitoring website, so Accusoft staff can see minute-by-minute how much power the panels supply, and how much the company is saving. Solar Source of Largo, Florida, one of the largest solar contractors in the world, installed Accusoft’s array.
