ACI Information Group to Preserve Scholarly Collection with Portico
New York, NY (PRWEB) January 08, 2016 -- ACI Information Group, LLC will preserve its research database, the ACI Scholarly Blog Index, with Portico ensuring that the first digital collection of scholarly blogs will be secure and available for library subscribers in the future. This is the first time scholarly blogs will be preserved as part of the scholarly record.
“Digital preservation is a high priority for libraries and publishers,” says ACI Information Group President Larry Schwartz. “Significant efforts are being made to preserve the complete scholarly record, and that includes scholarly blog posts. ACI Information Group is pleased to partner with Portico for the first time to ensure the availability of scholarly blogs for the long-term.”
Portico is one of the largest community-supported digital archives in the world with a mission to help the academic community preserve e-journals, e-books, and other electronic scholarly content for the long term. Currently, Portico preserves more than 60 million archival units working with more than 300 participating publishers that represent more than 2,000 societies and associations.
When preserved content in the Portico archive is no longer available from the publisher or any other source, Portico library participants gain access to it through Portico. This is critical for researchers who rely on ongoing access to scholarly content.
“It’s critical that scholarly blog content be included in the preservation of the scholarly record,” says Schwartz. “As a growing number of researchers look for authoritative content from top scholarly bloggers to supplement their research and engage in scholarly discourse, blog posts have become primary source material that should always be accessible. The ACI Information Group and Portico partnership guarantees that they will be.”
