Actor’s Recovery from Brain Injury Called a Miracle
Clearwater, FL (PRWEB) October 03, 2014 -- The unexpected recovery of a Florida man with brain trauma caused by a near fatal car crash has resulted in a new movie, The Favorite.
While pursuing acting in Hollywood, Luke Bernard was scheduled to star in the pilot of a web comedy television show when he wrecked his truck. Luke underwent emergency brain surgery in which a 4" x 5” section of his skull was removed to take two blood clots. Kathy & Daniel Bernard, Luke’s parents, were not given much hope. Luke sustained a broken neck and back as well as brain trauma.
To the astonishment of his nurses and neurosurgeons, Luke completed initial rehabilitation within weeks, walking in body armor and a helmet to protect his head. Within two months, nearly a year ahead of schedule, he was able to have a cranialplasty and is making a full recovery. Doctors at the LA County USC Medical Center, where the surgery was performed to save his life, have asked Luke to return and participate in a medical seminar on brain trauma.
After the last surgery, Luke had a dream about writing a movie script inspired by the accident and recovery he has had that has changed his life. The Favorite is now scripted, budgeted, and using a social media crowd funding campaign to raise production funds. Award winning Director Curtis Graham has signed on to direct the movie along with an experienced crew.
The plot of the film involves reconciliation with family and God. Producer Daniel Bernard shares, “Luke’s recovery has changed many lives as people have seen the power of prayer and God’s miracles. We want The Favorite to inspire people to find hope even in seemingly hopeless situations.”
Since announcing the film, Luke has been asked to speak to a number of national and Florida organizations, churches, and schools on dealing with the physical and emotional challenges of recovery from brain injury.
