Advanced Cell Diagnostics Webinar on Surveying Expression of Immune Checkpoint Markers in Tissue Microenvironment
Yorba Linda, CA (PRWEB) June 23, 2016 -- Focusing solely on malignant cancer cells and the genes that they express provides only a glimpse of the larger picture. The tumor microenvironment (TME) is a key factor in tumor progression and the potential treatment response—and identifying the main players involved in this environment could further reveal the immune system’s potential to regulate cancer.
The RNAscope® Technology from Advanced Cell Diagnostics makes it possible to visualize immune checkpoint markers in the TME of non-small cell lung carcinoma biopsies from patients. The detection of co-expressed markers has revealed a diverse pattern, and highlights intratumor heterogeneity within each tumor. Information obtained from this study could shed light on combination therapies targeted against different checkpoint pathways.
Advanced Cell Diagnostics is sponsoring a new, free educational webinar, “Surveying expression of immune checkpoint markers in the tissue microenvironment,” which will discuss how gene expression can be distinctly revealed with RNAscope® Technology in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues with reliable consistency, and how screening for checkpoint markers in the TME can help assess potential effective therapies. Continuing education credits will be offered through the PACE system.
The speaker is Jeffrey Kim, PhD, application scientist, R&D, for Advanced Cell Diagnostics. Dr. Kim obtained a PhD in molecular biology at the University of Connecticut, investigating how nutrient metabolism impacts gene expression to alter chronic disease states. He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California-Davis, looking at oncometabolite metabolism in renal cell carcinoma, and the role of docosahexaenoic acid-derived metabolites on tumor angiogenesis. He previously completed a fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, examining the influence of various fatty acids on brain development by combining the powerful tools of mass spectrometry and imaging.
The free webinar, hosted by LabRoots, will be presented on June 30, 2016, at 8 am Pacific Time/11 am Eastern Time.
