Advanta IRA Hosts Lunch and Learn for Real Estate Investors

Most people are not aware that real estate can be held in a retirement account, but the IRS does allow it. Using a retirement plan to invest in real estate has great tax saving benefits, since all income and expenses flow through the account on a tax-free or tax-deferred basis. All types of property qualify to be held in an IRA, including single-family homes, commercial property, lots, multi-family homes, and even trust deeds and tax liens.
Another tax saving strategy Advanta IRA will discuss during the lunch and learn is one that is performed outside of an IRA. A 1031 exchange allows individuals to purchase investment or business-use real estate by exchanging one property for another. According to Section 1031 of the Internal Revenue Code, it is one of the last great tax shelters. A key advantage is that all capital gains taxes are deferred when performing this transaction.
Using a self-directed IRA or a 1031 exchange are great ways to defer taxes on investment real estate.
