AFAR Media Hires New Creative Director
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) September 25, 2013 -- Julia Cosgrove, VP and Editor in Chief, AFAR Media, announces that Elizabeth Spiridakis Olson will be joining AFAR as Creative Director, effective October 21, 2013. Elizabeth joins AFAR from Bon Appétit, where she has served as art director since 2011. This year, Bon Appétit received six ASME nominations and multiple SPD nominations for design. Prior to Bon Appétit, Elizabeth worked on the design teams of T and Details.
“I’ve admired Elizabeth’s design sensibility and her social media pluck for several years, and I’m thrilled to have her as my partner in building on AFAR’s success,” says Julia Cosgrove. In her new position, Elizabeth will oversee the design approach to the whole AFAR Media brand, including AFAR magazine, AFAR.com, and the AFAR Experiences event series.
“AFAR is doing something radically different in the travel space, by building an engaged community of likeminded global citizens who are itching to share their knowledge of the world,” says Cosgrove. “I am excited to work with Elizabeth on continuing to build and unify our platforms in a radical, yet seamless way.”
“I am really looking forward to working with the AFAR team and creating a sense of design cohesion across the different platforms,” says Olson. “The brand has established itself in a short period of time, and I’m excited to dig in and take it to the next level.”
Additionally, AFAR’s editorial team is expanding, both in San Francisco and in New York. Deputy Editor Jen Murphy will be based out of the New York office starting December 1, 2013. Expect to see a refresh of the front-of-book in early 2014—and a more refined integration between print and digital.
