AkibaH Introduces Smartphone Case Glucometer For People With Diabetes Through Launch of Indiegogo Campaign
San Jose, California (PRWEB) November 17, 2015 -- AkibaH, a Techstars company building products to streamline and simplify diabetes management, announced today the launch of its premier product, GluCase, via the crowdfunding platform, Indiegogo. GluCase is the world’s first smartphone case glucometer, helping people with diabetes monitor their sugar levels and share that information directly with their endocrinologist and care team. The case serves as an all-in-one solution for individuals who are forced to contend with products that are inconvenient and difficult to use.
GluCase uses a patent-pending technology that takes all the components of a traditional glucose measuring system and seamlessly integrates them into a compact smartphone case. The case combines disposable lancets, test strips and an embedded glucose meter, eliminating the need to carry bulky meters, testing supplies and logbooks.
The case communicates with a mobile application and physician dashboard to present glucose levels in context of other information such as activity and diet, giving users and caretakers the ability to see how their decisions impact their health in real time. All communication within the platform is encrypted and HIPAA compliant, with privacy control settings to guard personal information. The sensor, mobile application and cloud platform are built with the user in mind, making it easy to collect the information, read your results and immediately see how your lifestyle affects your health.
“Diabetes is a pandemic that’s affected someone that we all know,” says AkibaH founder Fathi Abdelsalam. “According to a UnitedHealth report, half of all Americans will develop diabetes or prediabetes by the end of this decade. With healthcare becoming more mobile and personalized, we wanted to create something that would work seamlessly in the lives of people with diabetes without impacting the rest of their lifestyle. Since no one is ever without his or her phone anymore, GluCase solves that problem. We are so excited for our Indiegogo campaign, to show the world what we’ve created to help manage diabetes.”
The Indiegogo campaign officially launches on November 16, 2015 and will run for 30 days. Backers will have the opportunity to pledge for GluCase for $69 via the Indiegogo campaign. At the close of the campaign, AkibaH will finalize product development and pursue FDA 510(k) clearance through official clinical studies in which the Indiegogo backers will be invited to partake. Funds raised via Indiegogo will be directly used to fill crowdfunded orders, set to ship in September 2016, post-FDA clearance.
In view of Diabetes Awareness Month, AkibaH will donate 10% of all proceeds raised by the Indiegogo campaign to the American Diabetes Association. Additionally, AkibaH will donate an additional 2% to the Chris Dudley Basketball Camp for Kids with Diabetes, operated by NBA veteran Chris Dudley. Dudley is aType 1 diabetic and managed a 16-year NBA career with the condition.
“With mobile health technology such as GluCase, people are positioned more than ever before to take charge of their own health, on their own terms,” said Dudley. “That's what great technology and entrepreneurship always does. It liberates.”
