Alaska Airmen Annual Raffle Plane On-track
Anchorage, Alaska (PRWEB) March 11, 2014 -- Another Alaska Airmen Association Piper Super Cub refurbishing project is well underway at the Merrill Field Hangar of Dan’s Aircraft Repair.
This year’s PA-18 (N44RT) will be another astonishing aircraft that while being refurbished, will be far better than any Cub that came from the Piper factory when it was manufacturing the well-known aircraft. The specially painted Black and Gold on White Super Cub could be yours for a $50 raffle ticket and $225 for a group of five chances.
This raffle is so popular that manufacturers donate their new components and certified and parts to support the raffle on an aircraft that will prove the quality and innovation of today’s bush Cub.
To demonstrate this, Sky-Tec just donated a starter for the Lycoming O-320 powerplant for this Cub project, according to refurbishing guru Dan Hollingsworth, owner of Dan’s Aircraft Repair.
“This is the 122 NL Starter that is so powerful that it spins fast enough you can almost water taxi with it,” said Hollingsworth. “This flyweight starter is the best and easiest fit for the O-320 and O-360 engines.”
Despite tight budgets and economic waves of uncertainty raffling an aircraft at the 17th Annual Great Alaska Aviation Gathering (previously known as the Alaska Airmen Association Tradeshow and Conference) is part of the fabric of the association, to promote general aviation in Alaska, and is also a fundraiser for the 2,200 members of the association.
The better than new Super Cub will feature a 160 HP Lycoming engine with ECI Cylinders by Custom Aircraft Inc., a McCauley Propeller, Atlee Dodge modifications like landing gear, tail fins, and will be fitted with 35 inch Alaskan Bushwheels and a baby Alaskan Bushwheel tail wheel, a Wipaire 2000lb gross weight kit, with seats provided by Fineline Interiors, and seat belts and shoulder harnesses from AMSAFE.
The fuselage by Univair will be powder coated by Advanced Powder Coating of Willow, Alaska with the avionics and instrument panel design and cutting by Northern Lights Avionics. A gascolator is being provided by Steve’s Aircraft with miscellaneous hardware being provided by Reeve Airmotive, Inc. The raffle Cub will be covered with fabric provided by Consolidated Aircraft Parts and Coatings that includes the tape and paint, the navigation and landing lights will be donated by Aviall, with new micro VG Kit from Micro Aero Dynamics,Inc.
