Andrews International’s William Besse Is Guest Speaker at UCLA
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 28, 2015 -- On Saturday, April 25, William M. Besse, CHS-V, was a guest lecturer at UCLA Extension’s seminar on Crisis Management & Communications: Safeguarding Image and Viability. Besse is vice president of the Consulting, Investigations & International division at Andrews International (AI), an affiliate of security company U.S. Security Associates. As a consultant in crisis planning, management, and response, Besse is frequently engaged as a speaker by professional associations and public and private organizations.
Besse spoke to the UCLA students on the subject of “Managing Risk in a Dangerous World.” His presentation covered a host of timely topics, with a particular emphasis on the rising number of sophisticated data intrusions and data thefts as well as the increasing participation of nation states in the escalation of cyber warfare waged against military, industrial, research, and corporate databases. Another focus of the lecture was personal crises experienced by public figures. Besse drew examples from real-life experiences of high-profile individuals in the sports and entertainment fields and in public and private sectors. Besse also took a brief look at financial losses in the U.S. and globally due to natural disasters over the past five years. He concluded the talk with a discussion of what can be done to mitigate damaging crises in today’s increasingly complex society.
Besse has been invited to speak at UCLA on several previous occasions and says that with the constantly shifting risk landscape, there are always current and emerging threats to discuss. As a former trained educator, Besse welcomes the opportunity to interact with students and describes those who participated in Saturday’s seminar as a “great group of mostly UCLA undergraduates this time. Very enjoyable!”
Besse’s presentation was part of a multi-week UCLA Extension symposium taught by Los Angeles-based public relations and crisis management executive, Martin Cooper. Cooper is the president of Cooper Communications and has led crisis management seminars on behalf of the County of Los Angeles, the International Council of Shopping Centers, and the California Chamber of Commerce.
The Crisis Management and Communications course is designed for corporate, healthcare, and nonprofit executives, crisis management and security service professionals, and others who are responsible for managing crisis situations that could threaten an organization’s image and viability. The curriculum includes examinations of actual crisis case studies to demonstrate how to minimize risk, create a crisis plan, and manage, survive, and recover from a crisis. Over the course of the symposium, several guest speakers are invited to share their expertise on identifying potential vulnerabilities and developing comprehensive protection, management, and communication plans.
UCLA Extension is among the nation’s oldest and largest continuing education providers, with more than 4,300 courses, programs, and conferences for professionals in many disciplines, including business, management, information systems, public policy, and more.
