Annual INI Foundation Gala Explores 'Music of the Mind' to Benefit Vital Brain Research
Marina del Rey, Calif. (PRWEB) October 29, 2015 -- Driven by the mission of optimizing brain performance and recovery from degeneration and injury, the Institute of Neurological Innovation (INI) will host its 7th annual benefit gala on November 21. This year’s event—themed “Music of the Mind”—will feature a fascinating keynote by Adam Gazzaley, M.D., Ph.D., founder of Gazzaley Labs, and exciting research shared by Christopher Duma, M.D. FACS, renowned brain surgeon/Music Heals founder, celebrating music’s powerful effects on our thoughts, on healing, and improving quality of life.
Proceeds from INI’s Music of the Mind gala will help the non-profit foundation advance its vital ongoing research involving Alzheimer’s disease, PTSD and athlete concussions, particularly among former NFL players.
Founded by Amir Vokshoor, M.D., a neurological spine surgeon at DISC Sports & Spine Center (DISC), INI divides its research between cognitive and functional studies. Current cognitive studies are exploring the techniques of guided meditation, neuroimaging, and neurofeedback to improve treatment algorithms in pain and improve cognitive reserve. INI’s functional research is primarily focused on exploring the efficacy of the latest spinal devices. The non-profit is also involved in a multi-center, national clinical IDE trial.
“INI’s innovation is based on realizing technology advancement for cognitive disorders, as well as using this technology for restoration of the functional networks within the brain,” said Vokshoor. “Through the generous support of friends, colleagues and anonymous donors, we have been able to make great strides that may someday pave the way for completely reversing the devastating impacts of diseases like Alzheimer’s or traumatic brain injuries such as concussions.”
In June, INI began working with the NFL Retired Players Association to further its research on the long-term effects of repeated concussions suffered by athletes. The organization has also been active in getting important Alzheimer’s Disease legislation passed to better manage healthcare for the 600,000 Californians living with the disease.
Music of the Mind, the 7th Annual INI Gala, will be held Saturday, November 21, 2015, from 7-10 p.m., at the Legendary Park Plaza Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. For information or to purchase tickets, please visit http://www.inifoundation.org.
