Annual Mother’s Day Weekend Concert Brings Classic R&B Hit-makers The Whispers and Jeffrey Osborne to Newark Symphony Hall and NYCB Theatre at Westbury
New York, NY (PRWEB) March 19, 2014 -- Marquee Concerts presents two special Mother’s Day weekend themed shows. On Friday, May 9, the Mother’s Day Weekend Concert plays at New Jersey’s Newark Symphony Hall. On Saturday, May 10, presented in association with Live Nation, the show hits Long Island’s NYCB Theatre at Westbury. The classic R&B shows have become an annual tradition.
This year’s concert features a double bill with iconic R&B quintet, The Whispers, plus acclaimed vocalist Jeffery Osborne.
“We’re please to welcome back the legendary R&B group The Whispers and bring aboard the remarkable Jeffrey Osborne for these two memorable shows dedicated to mom on her special weekend,“ notes Bill Zafiros, co-founder of Marquee Concerts. “The annual concert is the perfect gift for all the moms in your life – mothers, grandmothers, wives, sisters, and friends,” he adds.
A veteran R&B group with an impressive legacy of hits, The Whispers celebrate more than five decades of beautiful, enduring music. As one of R&B music’s most beloved and consistently popular vocal groups, they began their legendary career in 1963, producing a string of hits over the course of 40+ years, including “And the Beat Goes On,” “Rock Steady,” and “It’s a Love Thing,” among others. The quintet emerged as the leading romantic singers of their generation, racking up one gold album after another and charting numerous R&B hits spanning more than 3-dozen albums.
Gold and platinum recording artist Jeffrey Osborne launched his career in 1969 with the popular funk & soul group L.T.D. Originally the band’s the drummer, Jeffrey eventually became lead vocalist. After a decade with L.T.D., he went on to pursue a solo career, which led to Top 40 hits including “Don’t You Get So Mad,” “Stay With Me Tonight,” “Love Power,” a duet with Dionne Warwick, plus five gold and platinum albums, including Stay With Me Tonight and Only Human.
