AT&T Declared Wireless Carrier Winner at the Big Game
Schaumburg, IL (PRWEB) February 04, 2014 -- Nexgen Wireless today announced the first in a program of Wireless Carrier Performance Tests that will reveal the actual performance metrics of major wireless carriers Sprint, Verizon and AT&T. The program kicked off with a big win by AT&T at Big Game Sunday, which was held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Testing showed that AT&T was the clear winner with a big advantage on their data network over Verizon and Sprint. Sprint won in the Voice category, but with a much smaller margin than what was seen on the data network. Verizon placed 2nd in both categories. The results revealed that AT&T was best prepared for the traffic load at this event. Nexgen believes that in future tests the winners will vary depending on network configurations and support. The program will include a series of tests throughout large US metropolitan areas during major events and at marquee venues in 2014. Nexgen will be sharing key results from a select number of competitive benchmark studies throughout the year. The results from the Big Game are described in the attached table and available on http://www.nexgenwireless.com.
The testing showed that AT&T had the best average data throughput (download: 5.31 Mbps, upload: 2.897 Mbps) and average latency of 143.82 ms.
The Wireless Carrier Performance Study from the Big Game included coverage from both outdoor and indoor signals. The importance of differentiating between indoor and outdoor performance was underlined by a study published by Cisco which revealed that 80-85% of consumer wireless data traffic occurs indoors. The prevalence of mobile devices being used indoors has impacted how wireless carriers plan and deploy their networks, with most implementing a variant of small cells strategy. Indoor mobile performance is becoming even more important given the level of new services being offered, such as location based advertising and public safety requirements. In addition to providing in-building coverage, the wireless carriers are seeing extreme pressure to keep these networks optimized. As traditional data usage shifts towards VoLTE, the data network performance will become even more important, especially with customer experience indicators such as latency and jitter.
One Samsung S3 mobile device for each carrier was used in the sequence of calls, using both data and voice. The data collection and post processing was handled by a3rd party software and Nexgen’s proprietary tools. Nexgen’s program of benchmark studies will provide carriers with visibility to the data required in order for the optimization of network performance and meeting consumer demand. Key Performance Indicators, or KPIs, are the factors used in determining the winner of each test.
Key Performance Indicators will include:
•Uplink throughput
•Downlink throughput
•Signal Quality
•Failure Rates (Block %, Drop %)
John Thakkar, President of Nexgen Wireless spoke about the significance of the program, “Nexgen Wireless is focusing our efforts with small cell solutions. This will allow our customers to leverage our staff of industry experts along with our software products for a unique solution. While carriers and venue owners are expanding their coverage and capacity, Nexgen provides a neutral third party point of view of measuring the return on their investment.”Nexgen believes that the Wireless Network Benchmark Program will reveal crucial data about how consumers are experiencing wireless networks, and also about how they are performing.
Nexgen was recently named to the Inc 500|5000 for being one of the US’s fastest-growing private companies. The list represents the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy–America’s independent entrepreneurs.
