Austin Athletic Chalk Startup Bucks Trend, Keeps Manufacturing Local
Austin, Tx (PRWEB) November 06, 2014 -- While other athletic chalk companies are producing their chalk 12 time zones away, Primo Chalk owner Jeremy Brooks set up shop 30 minutes down the road in San Marcos, Tx.
“We started the company back in 2009 when outsourcing was at the forefront of a lot of people's minds. We wanted to show that manufacturing was not only feasible here in the United States, but that a company could thrive on it.”
Since those days, gym chalk use has grown, thanks in part to the popularity of CrossFit. Competition has intensified with industry giants Rogue and Metolius. Still, the small business from Texas refuses to take standard cost cutting measures of sending production overseas.
“Maintaining complete control over the quality of our product allows us to respond and adapt fast.”
Though manufacturing is kept local, use of Primo Chalk has gone global as of late. Distributors in Scotland, Canada and United Arab Emirates are selling Primo Chalk internationally. South African and Australia distributors have begun showing interest as well.
"The fact that people from all around the world appreciate our chalk reaffirms my belief in keeping production here. My biggest problem with outsourcing Primo Chalk is transitioning from individuals that are passionate about our product to people just trying to earn a paycheck. That's when quality starts to deteriorate. We can't have that if we want to continue to succeed.”
