Author Creates Handbook Tailored to Grieving Widowers
Rumney, N.H. (PRWEB) August 16, 2013 -- In “Getting A Grip On Grief: A Handbook for Widowers” (published by AuthorHouse), author, grief counselor and bereavement specialist Margaret W. Bickford draws upon 30 years of experience working with widowers in hospice chaplaincy to create a handbook specifically designed for grieving husbands.
“I discovered that the popular market in ‘how-to’ books is mainly geared for widows,” Bickford writes. “Mine is specifically focused on the surviving male spouse, who has had to deal with societal neglect and the false popular assumption that men don’t grieve or don’t need recognition for such feelings.”
Written in a concise, conversational style, “Getting A Grip On Grief” details what widowers need to accomplish as they experience the loss of their spouse. The first section covers the time leading up to death, in circumstances where it is expected, such as terminal illness. The second part walks widowers through the time of a wife’s death, the funeral and afterwards. Later chapters discuss what grieving entails and how to rebuild a life as a widower.
“In our death-avoiding society today, this book can provide words for uncomfortable feelings and experiences which most people avoid or deny,” Bickford explains, “as well as providing practical, widower-tested tips and coping strategies.”
