Award-winning Sookbox Launches Kickstarter Campaign
Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) July 26, 2013 -- Sookbox, the MIT bred software company that pioneered the distribution of music and video throughout the home, has announced the launch of a month-long crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. During this campaign, supporters will pledge funds to help Sookbox accelerate design and manufacture of its three hardware models: the Sookbox BDS, Sookbox MS, and the Sookbox Stream Runner.
"As a way to introduce ourselves to tech enthusiasts and early adopters in the market, there’s no better option right now," said Sookbox founder David Sukoff. "Successful Kickstarter campaigns have the power to create widespread brand recognition and can give companies like Sookbox the industry buzz we need to really take off."
Sookbox has been able to grow from innovative concept to working product in less than 2 years. The company is following up a successful debut at this year’s International Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2013) in Las Vegas, where it received accolades for its initial product, the Sookbox BDS. Pledges received from this Kickstarter campaign will allow Sookbox to expand its offering by adding two new models, the Sookbox MS and Sookbox Stream Runner.
Sookbox engineers have created a new way to manage static content and internet streaming within one platform. The product allows users to create a centralized collection point of their favorite movie, TV, music, and photo content. This media is stored locally in their home or place of business, on the same server (BDS) that also streams internet media. Since the BDS is accessible from anywhere via IP networking, all media is controlled easily via a smart phone or tablet and can be distributed to any connected output device (TV, stereo, etc) .
Backers of the Sookbox campaign on Kickstarter will be amongst the first to receive products. The first option is the Sookbox BDS, a large capacity media server with support for four HDMI video zones, 16 audio zones, and two terabytes of storage. The second option is a more mainstream version, the Sookbox MS, which has one video output, one audio output and a USB port to connect storage. The third option is the Sookbox Stream Runner, which acts as a wireless zone extender for a Sookbox BDS or MS, or as a standalone unit. It has built-in Wifi for connectivity to the Sookbox MS or BDS, an HDMI and stereo output, and can be used to create multiple zones in a Sookbox network. All products utilize the Sookbox software that includes a media player, content aggregation, multi-zone control, and built-in internet browser.
"We know that running a campaign on Kickstarter doesn't replace traditional market placement or distribution models," explained Sukoff. "But it's a fantastic way to get the word out to those early adopters out there who are looking for the next big thing."
