Baker Electric Solar Named 2014 BBB Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics Finalist

With just over 80 employees at the time of its entry submission, the San Diego solar installer was recognized with a finalist award in the 25-to-99 employee category. The 17th annual awards luncheon was held on Dec. 2 at the Town and Country Resort Hotel and Convention Center.

The Better Business Bureau Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics is an annual awards program designed to honor outstanding local companies, both accredited and non-accredited. Winners and finalists were selected in categories based on number of employees. Companies submit a comprehensive entry which includes documentation on how the company is committed to ethical business practices -- in regards to its employees, stakeholders, suppliers, vendors and customers. The winners and finalists are chosen by independent judges and are noteworthy because they are making a conscious choice to conduct their business in an ethical manner.
Baker Electric Solar’s BBB Torch Award entry provided sections from its employee handbook which detailed its commitment to exceptional standards -- communicated to and implemented by employees. It included examples of the company’s vision, mission and core values “in action.” The 165-page digital entry described how Baker’s beliefs benefit its customers, suppliers, stakeholders and the local community. In addition, the entry included a detailed section on how Baker Electric Solar ensures that all its sales, promotional materials and advertisements are truthful and accurate. The entry included samples of media coverage regarding the solar integrator’s industry and community reputation which also supported its position as a BBB trustworthy business.
The Torch Awards program is designed to promote not only the importance of ethical business practices, but the willingness and efforts made by outstanding businesses to ensure that the marketplace remains fair and honorable.
