Banning Ranch Conservancy Among Participants of California Coastal Commission Tour
Newport Beach, CA (PRWEB) June 07, 2014 -- The California Coastal Commission is hosting a tour of the largest parcel of unprotected coastal open space remaining in Orange County. Known as Banning Ranch, the 401-acre stretch of land is located along Pacific Coast Highway between the cities of Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, and Huntington Beach. The public is invited to join this unique excursion, which takes place on Wednesday afternoon, June 11, 2014.
What makes the event so special is the rare opportunity it offers. Banning Ranch has been off-limits to the public for decades. Thanks to the tour, people finally can experience this seldom-seen coastal treasure first-hand.
The tour has drawn the attention and support of various community groups, including the Banning Ranch Conservancy http://banningranchconservancy.org. “As part of an organization dedicated to the preservation of this parcel of paradise, I couldn’t be more pleased,” enthused Terry Welsh, President of the Banning Ranch Conservancy. “The tour is a tremendous way to help raise awareness of the Ranch and its significance to our communities.”
Debby Koken, Secretary of the Banning Ranch Conservancy, echoed this enthusiasm. “The event promises to be an unforgettable experience for the entire family. Participants will be getting a rare treat highlighted by a diversity of fascinating plant and animal life, as well as breathtaking ocean scenery. Plus, everyone will have an opportunity to interact directly with key members of the California Coastal Commission http://www.coastal.ca.gov. The educational value alone makes this a must-see event!”
Special buses have been chartered to transport guests and commission members to the tour site. No private transportation is permitted. The buses will depart from Huntington Beach City Hall on the afternoon of June 11th, immediately after the meeting of the California Coastal Commission. Since bus space is available on a first-come, first-served basis, guests should be at the Huntington Beach City Hall on Wednesday June 11th by 9:00 a.m. to sign up for the tour at the Commission staff table which will be located at the main entry to the City Council Chambers.
Prior to the tour participants must fill out a release and liability waiver form which will be available at sign up or can be downloaded from the Commission website http://documents.coastal.ca.gov/reports/2014/6/W33-6-2014.pdf. Those interested are also encouraged to email the Banning Ranch Conservancy at info(at)BanningRanchConservancy(dot)org to help the organization estimate attendance.
