Bedford’s “Limestone Castle” Offered to the Public at Auction
Bedford, Indiana (PRWEB) September 18, 2017 -- The historic Bedford C. S. Norton Mansion was built in 1897 by Mr. C. S. Norton using limestone from Blue Hold Quarry on Norton Lane. The three-story Queen Anne style home located in the heart of downtown Bedford is selling at auction on October 16.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, the mansion features 8,000 square feet of living space total with 5 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, 11 foot ceilings, .51 acre lot and loads of charm and character. The cylindrical tower and conical roof, classic scrolling porch columns, intricately carved limestone fireplace, and massive staircase are just a few of the architectural wonders of the mansion.
Beckort Auctions, LLC, of Corydon will conduct the auction on behalf of the Estate of Mary R. Haverland, and it will be held online with an open house and inspection available on October 4 from 2-6 p.m.
“This is an opportunity to own a well-known landmark in the Bedford community,” says auctioneer Brian Beckort. “The house truly captures the definition of the word mansion.”
