Belatrix Software Hosts Hackathon To Help Improve People’s Lives
Buenos Aires, Argentina (PRWEB) October 11, 2017 -- Belatrix Software, a leading software development company, invited programmers to participate in its annual hackathon, called Hackatrix, in the capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires. The event was held at Belatrix’s offices in the city.
More than 60 people attended the hackathon, who then made up 14 teams. Each team was tasked with creating a working prototype of their idea during the day. The idea had to have a social purpose. At the end of the event, the teams were judged on different criteria, from popularity, to how innovative it was.
The winning project was one to improve the blood donation process in Argentina. Currently the process can be chaotic in the country, with individuals asking for people with a particular blood type via social media. By organizing the process into a website and application, the process can be improved, helping both hospitals and clinics that need donations, and also encouraging people to give blood.
The jury which assessed the teams included Sebastián Javier Marchano, Ezequiel Zanetta, and Julián Ezequiel Picó. Sebastián Javier Marchano is the founder of the company UserSpace, as well as founder of the ReactJS Buenos Aires MeetUp events. Meanwhile, Ezequiel Zanetta and Julián Ezequiel Picó are well-respected Android developers and co-organizers of the Android developer community in Buenos Aires.
Meanwhile, some of the other top ideas which were then created into working prototypes included:
- An educational platform to help identify skills and capabilities.
- An image recognition system for people with visual impairments. The system would be integrated with social media, and recognizes the image and reads out a description.
- “RentApp” was an idea to connect people who are located close to each other, and would enable them to rent out items that they own, meaning people would not have to purchase expensive items.
- An application to encourage people to donate clothing. The app provides an easy way for people to both donate clothing, but also offers a platform for people to search and find clothing they are looking for.
Fernando Gonzalez, VP of Marketing at Belatrix, and host of the event, commented, “It was a great success. Thanks to everyone who participated, who came up with some excellent and original ideas to help improve our society.”
