Benzer Pharmacy Reinforces Drug Take-Back Program for Consumer Drug Disposal to Commemorate Earth Day
Tampa, Florida (PRWEB) April 22, 2016 -- Benzer Pharmacy is joining the environmental movement worldwide in celebrating Earth Day.
The Earth Day movement, started in the 1970′s by John McConnell, has since seen billions take part in planting trees, cleaning up local neighborhoods, and pushing government officials to enact more progressive environmental laws.
Benzer Pharmacy understands the importance of giving back to the community that supports its business and is encouraging the public to protect the Earth for future generations through safe medication disposal.
The pharmacy is helping customers prevent misuse of their unused medications by offering ‘DisposeMyMeds’, a prescription drug take-back program, in partnership with the National Community Pharmacists Association.
This drug take-back program only accepts NON-CONTROLLED medications and is available at our stores in Florida, Louisiana, Michigan, Virginia, and North Carolina.
“Pharmacists are the health care professionals seen last by patients before medications are used and Benzer is also there for patients when medications go unused or expire,” says Emah Madegwa, Benzer Pharmacy Media and Public Relations Manager.
“Unused or expired medications pose risks to our families, communities, and the environment. We welcome the community to come and talk to our pharmacists about their prescriptions and how to store, use, and dispose them properly,” adds Emah.
The DisposeMyMeds campaign was launched and introduced to Benzer Pharmacy June of last year and twenty-five stores have since endorsed the program.
“We have been receiving several calls from people who want to dispose of their unused and expired medications. It is encouraging to know that people are more conscious of their environment and that a majority of them are working towards a zero environmental footprint by conserving, restoring, and replacing the natural resources used in its operations,” narrates Emah.
Once the unused medication is collected, it's taken back to Sharps Inc, who use high temperature incineration for safe disposal. This is a safe, controlled and environmentally friendly route.
“This Earth Day, we aim to showcase our leadership in protecting the environment and preventing medication misuse by ensuring the safe and proper handling of medications from dispensing to disposal,” concludes Emah.
