Bert® Plug Load Adds BACnet Gateway for Building Automation System Integration
KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (PRWEB) October 24, 2017 -- Best Energy Reduction Technologies, LLC (BERT), the leading supplier of Wi-Fi based plug load management systems, announces immediate availability of the Bert® Connect BACnet Gateway. Bert® Connect allows BACnet-based building automation systems to measure, analyze and control circuits and plug load devices through integration with the Bert® Plug Load Management System. Bert uses the existing 802.11 b/g/n wireless network infrastructure eliminating the need for additional network equipment and support costs.
About the Bert® Connect BACnet Gateway
Bert® Connect discovers and controls Bert controlled circuits and devices, translating UDP messages into BACnet/IP for communication to/from the Building Automation System. Data from the Berts, such as volts, amps, power factor and temperature, are automatically fed into the building automation system enabling command and control for new applications. The flexible architecture of Bert® Connect supports installation in a centralized location or across multiple buildings making small and large projects simple and cost effective. “By enabling building automation systems to manage Bert plug load devices, we create a single platform to manage all loads in a building. Distributed loads that were challenging to control and measure, can now be easily managed by one system throughout the entire building,” says Joseph Tyrrell, Director of Technology for Best Energy Reduction Technologies, LLC.
Increased Operational Efficiency
Bert extends the reach of the BAS by eliminating standby plug loads when the building is empty and allowing facilities managers to control and access real-time plug load usage in context with other building loads. Berts can also function as inexpensive wireless temperature sensors collecting temperature data from virtually any point in the building. Large distributed loads such as air conditioning units and water heaters can be easily included in the building automation system’s load shedding or demand curtailment process.
The Power of Bert®
Over 100 school districts, colleges, state/local governments and sporting venues save over 5 million kWh every year with Bert®. Using patented technologies and a facility’s existing Wi-Fi network, Bert® lowers standby plug load energy expenses by 65%. By simply plugging devices such as vending machines, printers, copiers, water coolers, ac units and projectors into the Bert® Smart Plug series or wiring circuits with the Bert® Inline Series, commercial buildings can remotely measure and control plug loads at both the device and circuit level for loads ranging from 120V/15A to 277V/20A.
Bert® Control provides mass remote control so each building, group of buildings, device type or other group is scheduled off during nights, weekends and holidays when buildings are unoccupied. Bert® Measurement adds real-time measurement data and historical power usage by hour, day, month, year and user-defined time-periods. Bert® Threshold/Vend enables threshold-based control, preventing sensitive equipment such as compressors and projectors from turning off before the shutdown cycle is complete or the compressor turns off. Bert® Temperature uses high/low set point for temperature-based control as well as the ability to remotely monitor and record temperature data throughout a building.
The Bert® Plug Load Management system installs quickly so energy savings are immediate with a typical payback of 1 to 5 years. Bert® is often included in performance contracts from Ameresco, Energy System Group, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, McKinstry, Noresco, Opterra, Schneider Electric, Siemens and Trane.
