Biofeedback Federation of Europe to Host Webinar for Health Professionals on Helping Their Clients Combat Stress with Biofeedback
London, England (PRWEB) April 29, 2014 -- In an online event sponsored by Bio-Medical Instruments, Inc., Linda Walker, MHR, LPC, BCN, BCB will provide an introduction to the use of biofeedback in clinical practice.
Biofeedback is a learning process in which people are taught to improve their health and performance by observing signals generated by their own bodies such as heart rate, temperature and skin conductance. This information is fed back to the person in real time, allowing them to learn to control their response to different stressors. The many uses of biofeedback include relaxation, stress control, rehabilitation and peak performance.
Most people can identify when they are feeling stressed, but may not be aware that during stressful periods their heart rate speeds up, their respiration rate increases and their muscles tense. With knowledge of these physiological changes comes the power to regulate them. Asked about the benefit of biofeedback, Linda Walker replied, "Traditional therapies work from the outside in - biofeedback allows us to work from the inside out. Clients can gain an understanding of the physical symptoms of their mental health and learn to offset the negative impact of stress with bio-training."
A new Stress Control System by Thought Technology, is a set of simple tools, designed to help clinicians do biofeedback therapy with clients, even if they have little or no experience with biofeedback. The tools in the suite assess a client's physiological responses to stressful situations and elucidate any abnormal patterns to help them recuperate from stress using biofeedback. It works by monitoring a client’s arousal and stress levels with only a temperature sensor and a skin conductance sensor. A stress assessment objectively measures how stressed the client becomes and evaluates their ability to recover. The software provides instructions for breathing relaxation, guided relaxation, binaural beat relaxation and free-flow training. Audio and visual feedback is provided to facilitate the training process.
