Bloxx White Paper on HTTPS Content Inspection Highlights “Blind Spots” in SSL-Encrypted Web Traffic
Boston, Mass. (PRWEB) September 25, 2013 -- Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption is the de facto standard to secure Internet data and transactions and now accounts for 25-35 percent of all Web traffic. Yet, because this data is encrypted and “unseen” by traditional Web content filters, SSL can also be a back door into a network for malicious and inappropriate content.
A new white paper, The Benefits of SSL Content Inspection, from Bloxx, a leader in Web content filtering and email security, examines challenges and questions such as:
- Why SSL traffic levels are on the rise;
- The risks that SSL traffic exposes an organization to;
- Different approaches organizations can take to minimize the risk of SSL traffic;
- How, without visibility into SSL-encrypted traffic, IT lacks the ability to manage SSL traffic; and
- The benefits of intercepting, analyzing and categorizing SSL content.
“The irony is that accessing supposedly safe SSL-encrypted data from the Web creates a blind spot for traditional Web content filters,” explains Graham Twaddle, CTO from Bloxx. “If a Web filter can’t “see” the content in SSL-encrypted data, which may carry illegal or inappropriate content or malware, then organizations are vulnerable. Without the ability to analyze, categorize and block unwanted SSL-encrypted content, organizations are dramatically increasing risk.”
The Bloxx white paper examines new Secure Sockets Layer Intercept (SSLI) technologies used to build SSL content proxy applications that intercept and decrypt SSL Web traffic, creating a new level of protection against compromised HTTPS Web traffic.
