Calvary Hospital Offers Annual Bereavement Course
Bronx, NY (PRWEB) February 22, 2016 -- Calvary Hospital today announced that their 23rd Annual Bereavement Course will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Mondays from March 7 through May 9, 2016 at the Hospital’s Bronx Campus. The course is designed for those who work in the helping professions (social workers, nurses, funeral directors, etc.) who may need to address bereavement and grief-related issues in their professional lives (the course is not for bereaved family members).
The Hospital’s 10-week course is taught by various specialists from Calvary Hospital and from Calvary@Home (Home Care and Hospice). Upon completion, each participant will receive a Certificate of Attendance. Continuing Education Credits are pending from the NYS Department of Health, Bureau of Funeral Directors. These courses have been approved for contact hours by ADEC (Association for Death Education and Counseling); the ANCC for nurses (American Nurses Credentialing Center); and CSAC (Certified Substance Abuse Counselors). Fees are as follows:
• $225 per person to attend all 10 sessions; $200 each for 2-4 people registering from the same institution; $175.00 for five or more people. Special offer for graduate students is $50.00 for the complete course.
• People may also choose individual sessions for $50.

• March 28 – “An Overview of ‘Normal’ Grief” – Sherry R. Schachter, PhD, FT, 6 to 7 p.m., “Disenfranchised Grief: Intuitive vs. Instrumental Grievers” – Sherry R. Schachter, PhD, FT, 7 to 8 p.m.
• April 4 – “Death of a Child” – Sherry R. Schachter, PhD, FT, 6 to 8 p.m.
• April 11 – “Death of a Parent” – Raman Randhawa, LMHC-NCC, 6 to 7 p.m., “Death of a Sibling” – Raman Randhawa, LMHC-NCC, 7 to 8 p.m.
• April 18 – “Children and Death” – Walesca Marmolejos, LMSW, 6 to 8 p.m.
• April 25 – “General Bereavement for Young Adults” – Walesca Marmolejos, LMSW, 6 to 7 p.m., “Death of a Spouse/Partner” – Raman Randhawa, LMHC-NCC, 7 to 8 p.m.
• May 2 – “Initiating Bereavement Support Groups & Interventions” – Walesca Marmolejos, LMSW, 6 to 8 p.m.
• May 9 – “Grief and Trauma” – Sherry R. Schachter, PhD, FT, 6 to 7 p.m., “Compassion Fatigue” – Sherry R. Schachter, PhD, FT, 7 to 8 p.m.
