Boston, MA (PRWEB) April 27, 2015 -- Cambridge Eating Disorder Center, one of the oldest eating disorder centers in the country, is celebrating its 15-year anniversary under the continuous vision and leadership of Dr. Seda Ebrahimi. As eating disorders continue to grow, with some 30 million Americans predicted to be impacted by this mental health disease at some point in their lifetime, CEDC reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing treatment and recovery during the annual Academy for Eating Disorders Conference recently held in Boston.
“I truly enjoyed the opportunity to network with peers in the eating disorders and mental health field during the conference, especially since it was held in our backyard and gave us an opportunity to highlight the good work we’ve done for the past fifteen years,” said Seda Ebrahimi, PhD, Founder and Director of Cambridge Eating Disorder Center.
CEDC provides care to women and men from adolescence to adulthood, with residential programs for women and girls as young as 12 years old. More recently, Dr. Ebrahimi has specialized in the treatment of middle-aged women, a population with an increasing incidence of eating disorders. In fact, 10% of patients diagnosed with an eating disorder are over the age of 40.
“Eating disorders are a mental health disease, and can be more easily disguised later in life,” explained Dr. Ebrahimi. “Middle age is a time when women are going through significant life changes such as death or divorce, empty nest syndrome and menopause. This can trigger a relapse for women who may have struggled with an eating disorder earlier in life.”
During the conference, Cambridge Eating Disorder shared information and support to health professionals on its treatment and recovery services along the complete spectrum of care including residential, partial hospital, intensive outpatient, outpatient and transitional services. CEDC provides its clients with the tools, education, therapy and support needed to reduce disordered eating through nutrition, coping skills, relationship associations and improved body image. Clients receive individualized treatment programs by a multi-disciplinary team of professionals ranging from psychiatrists, nurses, social workers and registered dietitians.
Over the years CEDC also has prepared many professionals to work in the field of eating disorders through its post-doctoral training program as well as psychiatric residency and fellowship programs.
