Cannabis Growers and Dispensaries Form Medical Cannabis Alliance of Illinois
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) July 07, 2015 -- Illinois cannabis cultivation centers and dispensary owners have organized the only industry group whose board is limited to permit holders. The Medical Cannabis Alliance of Illinois’ (MCAI) board and its members have a shared vision on how to move the industry forward and are committed to making sure patients have access to cannabis as a viable medical treatment option.
MCAI includes 56-cultivation and dispensary permit holders making this the largest industry association in Illinois. MCAI was formed by the principals involved in the medical cannabis industry and is committed to advocacy, education and maintaining a safe and efficient regulatory structure. As a leading group of cultivation and dispensary principals, MCAI will work to serve as a credible voice and valued resource for the Illinois cannabis industry.
“MCAI is the result of countless hours of collaboration and planning to bring Illinois business owners together with one common goal - to ensure patients have access to medical cannabis and that Illinois drafts a blueprint on best practices for the cannabis industry,” says Ross Morreale, chairman of the board for MCAI.
“The fact that the growers and distributors have pulled together with a shared voice shows their commitment to ensuring patients have access to cannabis as a practical medical treatment option,“ says Bresha Brewer, executive director of MCAI. “We look forward to working with lawmakers, the public and physician community to make Illinois’ medical cannabis program a model for the nation.”
Cultivation centers are ready to begin growing medicine and are working with the state to get the necessary approvals to begin operations with the hope to having medical cannabis available to consumers as early as late September.
“We have an opportunity to build an industry that will improve the quality of life for thousands of Illinoisans,” says Tanya Griffin, dispensary director of MCAI. “Many of us have personal stories of loved ones that have benefited from medical cannabis and we are working expeditiously to bring that same relief to patients in every corner of Illinois."
The Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act became law August 1, 2013 and is slated to expire January 1, 2018. For more information visit http://www.mca-il.com.
