Celebrating Play with a New Imagination Playground at P.S. 9, Brooklyn
New York City, New York (PRWEB) December 02, 2014 -- A community rallying together to vote for a new playground for their children is worth celebrating. Teunis G. Bergen Public School 9 in Brooklyn, New York is the newest recipient of the Imagination Playground VOTE for Play Award, receiving their very own Imagination Playground and Play Associate Training (a value of $7,500).
The news comes just in time for the winter season, “It will absolutely transform our children’s winter recess!” one excited parent tweeted moments after hearing P.S. 9 was awarded an Imagination Playground. Imagination Playground’s mobile, big, blue foam blocks allow children to build their own play environment and transform any space into a playground.
P.S 9 is a diverse, child-centered, public elementary school based in Brooklyn, New York. Their child-centered focus stems from giving their children a voice and seeing their teachers as facilitators in learning. “Imagination Playground instills children with a sense of inquiry tapping into a sense of creativity and P.S.9 embraces child directed play. We see all children coming with a talent and being given an opportunity to work on that talent and also giving them the opportunity to build and be creative. With our new Imagination Playground, we will challenge their creativity–and enhance our children’s learning experience every single day,” said Sandra D’Avilar, Principal of P.S 9.
Ultimately, the persistent efforts of P.S. 9 were rewarded when 2,146 votes later, they accumulated the most votes and were awarded a new Imagination Playground. Imagination Playground President, Dave Krishock is supportive of the efforts of all the participants and said, “We saw schools and children’s organizations across the nation united by a common effort to bring an Imagination Playground to their children. We believe Imagination Playground transforms children’s minds, bodies and spirits through play, and will work with these organizations and more to help bring an Imagination Playground to their community. We congratulate P.S.9 on their efforts and all the educators and parents who participated.”
P.S.9 is now getting ready for the next step, integrating their new Imagination Playground into their school curriculum. Principal Sandra D’Avilar said “We are getting ready to work with our teachers and parents on planning how to include Imagination Playground in to our students day. We will encourage curiosity, independence and confidence in our children with Imagination Playground more than ever.”
