Easton, PA (PRWEB) December 07, 2013 -- The all-new Cigar Advisor Magazine is an online cigar magazine that brings a fresh, irreverent, and down-to-earth perspective on all things cigars to thousands of smokers. In addition to educational cigar content and behind-the-scenes cigar industry articles from some of the business’s top names, Cigar Advisor delivers an array of content about a variety of topics of interest to people who enjoy the cigar lifestyle. The magazine also features cigar reviews and ratings submitted by real smokers. Cigar Advisor magazine has just published a new article in their “Smokin' Cinema” column titled, The Man With No Name Trilogy: A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Written by Lee Pfeiffer, a noted film historian, author, and the Editor-in-Chief of Cinema Retro (a fanzine dedicated to films of the 1960's and 1970's), Pfeiffer retraces Eastwood's early acting career with “Spaghetti Western” director, Sergio Leone.
“Leone had always loved American Westerns and had long dreamed of bringing his own vision to the genre,” writes Pfeiffer. “Eastwood had been attempting to get a foothold in the film business since the mid-1950s, but all he could land were minor supporting roles in forgettable films.”
In 1959 Eastwood landed a co-starring role in the hit TV series, Rawhide. By 1964, Leone, who was looking to cast an American actor in his film, The Magnificent Stranger, offered Eastwood the starring role.
“Eastwood’s character was the ultimate anti-hero: a mostly silent drifter and opportunist whose name we never learn,” adds Pfeiffer. “He has a penchant for smoking stubby, cheap cigars and is only deemed heroic because the people he opposes have even less morals.”
It wasn't until later that Eastwood learned, to his surprise, that the film was a major European success and he was a top box office attraction. No one had told him that The Magnificent Stranger, had been renamed A Fistful of Dollars. Two more films followed with him as “The Man With No Name,” For a Few Dollars More, and by the release of the last film, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Eastwood was already an iconic international star.
