Citrus Art & Cuisine Celebrated at the Highlands Art League's Museum of the Arts (MoTA)
Sebring, Florida (PRWEB) April 23, 2014 -- Indulge in citrus art and cuisine in May at the Highlands Museum of the Arts (MoTA)'s Citrus Labels & Crate Expectations art exhibit on display through May 31. MoTA is one of the four buildings of the Highlands Art League’s (HAL) Village Where Art Lives, which is located in Downtown Sebring, FL on the shores of beautiful Lake Jackson.
In addition to the citrus art exhibit, two citrus-themed culinary events will be held in May.
May 1: Cocktails & Culture: Citrus – Art will focus on citrus culture, cuisine and cocktails with the second ‘Cocktails & Culture’ at the Highlands Museum of the Arts (MoTA), located at 351 W. Center Avenue in Downtown Sebring's Cultural Center (behind Library). Citrus industry representatives will discuss the history of the citrus industry while attendees savor the flavors of citrus from 6:00- 8:00 PM. $30/member; $35/not-yet-a-member. Limited to 50 attendees. Sponsored by Chicanes Restaurant/Inn on the Lakes.
May 22: Get Sauced on Citrus: Culinary Art Class – Local celebrity chef Mac Gentleman, from the Palms of Sebring, will lead attendees through the perfection of various citrus sauces at 6:00 PM. While Chef prepares the tastings, attendees will learn culinary techniques to try at home. Citrus-themed cocktails and light snack will be provided. $30/member; $35/not-yet-a-member. Class will be held at the Visual Arts Center (behind the Yellow House). Sponsored by the Palms of Sebring.
The two indoor exhibits from the Museum of Florida History include:
1) Florida Citrus Labels: A collection of 24 citrus labels that represent the thousands used in Florida between the late 1800s and the 1960s.
2) Crate Expectations: An Exhibit of Florida Citrus Crate Labels - Between the late 1800s and the 1960s, colorful labels decorated the ends of wooden crates that transported Florida citrus produce to northern markets.
