Coal Miner’s Daughter Turns Creative Business Owner
Hampton, VA (PRWEB) November 19, 2013 -- Maryellen Cosby-Smalls grew up as a coal miner’s daughter and went into structural engineering design after college, actually working in the coal mines. Despite making a comfortable living in the Blue Ridge Mountains, her desire was to live and raise a family within the vast diversities of the Hampton Roads area and do something more creative with her life.
Now she’s looking forward to becoming a bigger part of the community as the owner of a new business - Fresh Coat Painters of Hampton.
“I've always had this artistic-creative side and a love to make my environment safe, functional, and beautiful. I found the Fresh Coat organization through a Strategic Management class while working on my MBA at Averett University and I just really liked what I learned about the organization,” she said. “I’m a believer and I believe Jesus Christ has prepared my life to open my own Fresh Coat Painters franchise, so, by faith, I flew off to the headquarters in Cincinnati for a visit and it all just clicked for me. Now here we are!”
“My niche in the community will be the ability to extend a unique professionalism to my customers alone with premier quality products and services. My business plan actually includes this mission statement, ‘Not just another JOB but an experience.’ I expect all of my employees to take that statement to heart. Fresh Coat made it easy for me to embrace their philosophies because they align with mine,” Small said.
Fresh Coat Painters offers residential and commercial painting services including interior and exterior painting, wood staining and finishing, and other services for nearly every protective coating application. They use quality, environmentally safe materials and offer a 24/7 customer service center, online scheduling and detailed quotes. Fresh Coat Painters of Hampton will serve Hampton Roads area and the surrounding communities.
“I’m truly dedicated to creating a home that people can walk into and be proud of. Something they feel a connection with and can say ‘Yes. This is me. This is my home,’” Smalls said. “I’ve also hired a crew of very experienced and professional painters who understand the complexities of each paint job and who are from our community. I think it’s important to create jobs and keep them here in the Hampton area.”
Smalls is also committed to customer service. Fresh Coat Painters offers a 3-3-3 pledge, which means calls will be answered in three minutes, a quote will be delivered in three days (customer schedule permitting) and the job can be started within three weeks.
A Hampton Roads resident for 30 years, Smalls raised her two children – Celeste and Collin – in the area. She would like to thank her family and friends as well as The Small, Women-owned, and Minority-owned Business (SWaM) organization; SCORE; and Mike’s Vinyl Lettering for helping her start her business strongly and confidently with their love, assistance and professional services.
Fresh Coat was founded in 2004 as part of Strategic Franchising Systems. In the last year, Fresh Coat has been included in the Bond’s Top 100 and named to Entrepreneur Magazine’s Franchise 500 list. Fresh Coat also is part of the International Franchise Association, the Small Business Association’s Franchise Registry, VetFran and Minority Fran.
