Companion Bike Seat Introduces a New Backrest for Their Bike Seats, Launching an Indiegogo Campaign to Help Fund Product Development of the New Accessory.
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) November 18, 2014 -- Companion Bike Seat, the world's first bicycle accessory that allows you to carry a passenger on your bicycle, launched an Indiegogo campaign yesterday (http://igg.me/at/bike-seat-backrest) to help fund the development and prototyping of a new backrest for their bike seats. They are raising $2000 to kick off manufacturing of their new bike seat backrest, as well as introducing several new Companion Bike Seat branded items, including t-shirts and cycling hats. The backrests will be compatible as an add-on accessory to their existing bike seat, so that current bike seat owners can add one to their Companion Bike Seat. "The number one thing that our customers have been asking us for over the last year is a backrest for the bike seat, and we're really excited to start the design and development process on it. If all goes according to plan, we'll have the backrests available for purchase in early spring of 2015," says CEO and co-founder Paul O'Leary.
Companion Bike Seat is working with industrial designer Blake Johnson on the designs for the bike seat backrest. "We're really excited to be working with Blake on our backrests, and plan on working with him on many new accessories for our bike seats over the coming months. Once our backrests are moving forward with manufacturing, we'll start working on pannier hooks for the bike seat so that our customers can easily hang their panniers onto the sides of their bike seat. Lots of exciting stuff coming soon," says Paul.
The initial design for the backrests is complete, including SolidWorks modeling. "We had to make some improvements to our first design after building the initial SolidWorks model to make sure that backrest could withstand reasonable loads associated with a passenger leaning back against it. Our updated design provides more than enough support for a child or adult passenger." Next steps for the backrest are to start working with the factory to further refine the design and then start prototyping. The funds raised through their Indiegogo campaign will help cover the cost of prototyping, as well as an initial manufacturing run of the backrests.
Companion Bike Seat was founded in 2011, and released their first bike seat product to the world in September of 2013. Since then, they've sold over 200 bike seats across seven countries on three different continents. Here are some of their customer reviews: http://www.thebikeseat.com/reviews Their bike seats support passengers up to 200 lbs, and include a locking, waterproof storage compartment beneath the seat to store valuables in while riding your bicycle. The bike seats are compatible with a wide range of bicycle makes, models, and sizes, including mountain bikes, path-and-pavement bicycles, cruisers, and many ebikes as well.
