Complimentary Appraisals for the Public and See $1 Billion of Historic Money On Display in Atlanta at American Numismatic Association's National Money Show
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 24, 2014 -- The public can get free appraisals of their old coins and paper money and see more than $1 billion of historic rare coins and colorful currency, including examples of early Georgia money and a U.S. Treasury Bureau of Engraving and Printing display featuring $100,000 denomination bills, at the National Money Show (http://www.NationalMoneyShow.com).
The display will be in the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta, February 27 - March 1, 2014.
The family-friendly educational event is sponsored by the American Numismatic Association. More than 300 dealers from across the country will be buying and selling items ranging from a dollar to over a million dollars during the three-day show.
There will be no admission fee on Appraisal Day, Saturday, March 1, when the public can get complimentary, informal appraisals of their old coins and paper money from top numismatic experts.
Eye-opening daily exhibits of numismatic treasures include the Bureau of Engraving and Printing "Billion Dollar Display" of high-denomination currency and Treasury notes and daily demonstrations of a Civil War-era money printing press.
There will be museum displays of a famous $2.5 million 1913 Liberty Head nickel, one of only five known; a $4 million 1804-dated silver dollar that actually was made in the 1850s; and historic, seldom-seen centuries-old Georgia gold coins and currency.
Visitors also can see an example of the first coin authorized by President George Washington, a rare 1792 silver half "disme" (an early spelling of dime).
"Money is history you can hold in your hands. Every coin and piece of paper money ever made has a story to tell about people, places or events," said Walter Ostromecki, President of the nonprofit, Congressionally-chartered American Numismatic Association.
"The National Money Show will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many people to see more than $1 billion of historic rare coins and currency. It also will be a convenient opportunity for people with their own old coins and paper money to find out what it is and what its worth," explained Ostromecki.
Heritage Auctions is conducting a public auction of coins and currency in conjunction with the show that is hosted by the Metropolitan Coin Club of Atlanta and the Georgia Numismatic Association.
The National Money Show will be in Hall C at the Cobb Galleria Centre, 2 Galleria Parkway, in Atlanta. Free parking is available. Public hours are Thursday, February 27, from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Friday, February 28, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and Saturday, from March 1, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
General admission on Thursday and Friday, February 27 and 28, will be $6 for adults with children 12 and under admitted free. A $2 discount coupon is available online at http://www.NationalMoneyShow.com, and there is no admission fee on Appraisal Day, Saturday, March 1.
