Court.us.org Warns Customers Against Court Document Scam Artists
SAN DIEGO, CA (PRWEB) August 06, 2013 -- Court.us.org has started a campaign to wipe out scam artists who use fake court records to rip off honest consumers, the company said yesterday.
“There are a ton of people who use fake court documents to pull off real-seeming scams,” a Court.us.org spokesman said. “With a bit of research, though, it's easy to stop these scam artists in their tracks. We want to help people do that.”
The scam artists prey on people's fear and misunderstanding of the court system, the Court.us.org spokesman said.
“What often happens is that they send what appears to be a court order demanding payment to consumers,” he said. “People think they are going to go to jail if they don't write out a check, so they do. It's a really slimy scam.”
The fake court orders usually say that the person owes money for a small claims court verdict or for unpaid traffic tickets, the Court.us.org spokesman said.
“These scam artists know that most people don't know how to check to make sure the court order is real,” he said. “And many of them are afraid to contact the court in the first place. That's how these scam artists thrive.”
Court.us.org is uploading information on this type of scam to the members' area of their site and to their social media platforms, he said.
“It's so easy to not become a victim of this scam if you know what's going on,” the Court.us.org spokesman said. “That's the information we are putting into people's hands.”
