Cumberland Academy of Georgia Celebrating Graduates with Ceremony on May 22
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) May 18, 2014 -- On Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 11 a.m., Cumberland Academy of Georgia -- an independent school specializing in education for special needs students with Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome and other learning disabilities -- will celebrate and honor this year's high school graduates. The commencement will be held in the school’s gymnasium. The ceremony will feature a special video presentation by actor Sidney Poitier, which will be introduced by Brenda Wood, news anchor for 11Alive News/WXIA-TV.
Cumberland Academy of Georgia was founded in 2007 by Debbi and Matthew Scarborough to create a positive learning environment for their son, Steven, and other children who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Asperger’s Syndrome, ADD and ADHD, PDD-NOS, and those who have other learning difficulties. Steven Scarborough is this year’s Valedictorian.
“This is a proud moment for us, but also a little bittersweet,” said Debbi Scarborough, founding director of Cumberland. “We set out to create a strong, positive academic and social environment for our son and other students like him to grow and thrive. We’re thrilled to see Steven honored as a graduate and our Valedictorian.”
The ceremony is also an end-of-the-year celebration for all Cumberland students and will honor their achievements and hard work. The school is located at 650-A Mt. Vernon Highway NE in Atlanta. The staff welcomes family members and loved ones to attend the ceremony and celebrate this year’s graduating class.
Cumberland Academy of Georgia specializes in the needs of students in grades four through 12 who have high-functioning Autism, Asperger’s, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and learning disabilities. Cumberland was founded in 2007 by Debbi and Matthew Scarborough, and is a fully-accredited, independent, non-profit school that seeks to provide a safe and supportive academic atmosphere for its students.
