Dale Carnegie of Central Alabama Talks Presentation Skills on Fox News Central Alabama Business Break
Birmingham, Alabama (PRWEB) September 25, 2015 -- Dale Carnegie of Central Alabama was recently featured on Fox News Central Alabama Business Break.
Nancy Covert with Dale Carnegie Training discusses why presentation skills are an important business tool. The Wall Street Journal did a study and asked the participants of business meetings how they would rate the speaker. 84% of meeting participants reported that the speaker made them feel sleepy or bored. If a person is in a meeting feeling sleepy or bored, the speaker is not being very effective. A tool like presentation skills is vital in making sure the message is being delivered effectively and in a compelling way.
Covert goes on to say that presentation skills have always been a top fear of people. Individuals focus on what they're not doing well. They focus on what they’re not prepared for and they worry about things that are probably never going to happen during a presentation. Instead, individuals should have a more positive mind set and focus on what they bring to the conversation, how they can connect with the audience, and how to make sure that their message comes across as something that is important to the audience.
So how can individuals become a more effective public speaker? Covert says, “Mr. Carnegie always felt that we need to have the 3 e’s in place:”
-Earn the right to speak on our subject
-Have positive, excited feelings about the subject
-Have an eagerness that this message is something you want to compel the audience to listen to
And like any skill, becoming a better public speaker takes practice.
