Dallas Convention Adds $1000 Prize for Costuming
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) January 24, 2014 -- ALL-CON is a community operated convention featuring costuming, gaming, performances, discussion panels, and workshops. The event, which is being held at the freshly renovated Crowne Plaza hotel in Addison, is open from Thursday March 13 through Sunday March 16.
More than one hundred contributing groups, organizations, companies, and pre-screened fan panelists supply the content in eight break-out rooms, three performance halls, and a projection room which change up activities and features each hour on the hour. Surprisingly, one forty-five dollar ticket at the door covers all of the content for all four days.
Special guests can be found through out the content. Bill Blair who has the distinction of holding the world record for Most Special Effect Make-Up Characters Portrayed In A Career, verified and awarded by the Guinness Book of World Records, is a judge for the $1,000 Championship Costuming competition on Thursday; as is Heather Henry, a beloved contestant from the SyFy hit series Face Off. Neil Kaplan, a professional voice actor for over 25 years, is the Celebrity Master of Ceremonies for the Saturday night costume contest. Triston John, who is regularly seen in his many "walker" roles on AMC's original series The Walking Dead, is a celebrity judge in ALL-CON's Top Zombie competition. Samantha Newark will be present all four days meeting fans and discussing her voice work as Jem from the cartoon "Jem and the Holograms". Barry Diamond who has worked on television and in films such as Bachelor Party with Tom Hanks, is also attending to sign autographs, meet with fans, and will be presenting discussion panels about the professional stand-up comedy scene.
More science than science fiction, Marshall Barnes' credentials list him as having developed the first functioning technology for warp drive, which he has applied to torsion physics, resulting in the Verdrehung Fan(TM) - the only working prototype time machine. Marshall will be holding science discussions at ALL-CON about his research and experiments and their influence on the future of mankind.
Musical Guests Darwin Prophet and the Chronos Mirror, Addisyn Madd, and "Ocarina Diva" Cris Gale fill in the weekend with live music.
For the competition public, ALL-CON offers an open talent review called, "Buzzed Off", Championship Costuming with a $1,000 prize, Ms. ALL-CON pageant, and Ultimate Nerd "Greek Games" - all on Thursday. Friday competitions include anime themed Cosplay, Doctor Who's Next Companion (fandom), and ALL-CON's Top Zombie. Saturday highlights list a Doll and Asian Ball Jointed Doll costume contest, traditional costume contest, Ms. Star Wars pageant, and Texas Hold'Em poker tournament. Super Hero Sunday ("villains welcome") kicks off the final day of the four day spectacular.
Additional features that stand out are the La Divina Productions burlesque performance, slot car racing provided by Races2U.com, a starship tactical operations bridge simulator by the alpha chapter of Mu Epsilon Kappa, a special edition of the Dallas based Circus Freak's "Open Stage" production, a Steampunk themed traditional sideshow by Carnival Epsilon, and a traditional shadowcasting performance of the Rocky Horror Picture Show performed by Los Bastardos.
In addition to the announcement of the unusually large prize for Championship Costuming to celebrate their tenth year, ALL-CON is promoting the first day, Thursday March 13, is to be 'badge-free' where the convention curious public may attend the events that day without requiring the purchase of a badge (ticket) in order to become more familiar with what a fan convention has to offer; until capacity is reached.
