Dallas Region to Host Dinner to Benefit Franciscans in Holy Land
(PRWEB) August 22, 2016 -- The Dallas, Texas region of the Franciscan Foundation for the Holy Land has a big announcement!
The Franciscan Foundation for the Holy Land (FFHL) was founded in 1994 to help preserve the Christian presence in the Holy Land, a presence that has been dwindling for decades because of those underlying conflicts. There are approximately 150,000 Christians living in the Holy Land. Due to the severe political and economic hardships, an estimated 350 Christian families leave the Holy Land each year.
“We spend our lives teaching and preaching about these places in the scriptures,” stated Father Jonathan Austin, a priest in the FFHL Dallas Region. “Our lives are based on this – it is following the footsteps of Jesus.”
The Dallas Region has been active since the FFHL was founded and has hosted many events, dinners and social gatherings to raise funds and awareness for the work of the FFHL. Over the years, the region has helped many Christian students receive a college degree through the FFHL University Scholarship program.
The region is proud to announce it will hold its bi-annual fundraising dinner on Saturday, September, 17th at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Dallas, Texas. All proceeds of this event will directly benefit the work of the FFHL in the Holy Land.
The keynote speaker for the evening will be Raymond Arroyo, FFHL Board Member and News Director and lead anchor of EWTN News. Arroyo is also author of the best-selling “Will Wilder” a series for young readers. Fr. Peter Vasko, ofm, FFHL President will be giving an update on the Christians living in the Holy Land and what the FFHL is doing to help them.
“In essence, our lives are based in the Holy Land,” reflected Fr. Austin. “It is our duty to protect and guard the Christians in the Holy Land.”
