Defense Daily’s seventh annual Open Architecture Summit Successful
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) November 24, 2014 -- Defense Daily’s Open Architecture Summit 2014 successfully explored the current and future role of open architecture standards and solutions in defense acquisition and some of the latest and most innovative approaches.
The Nov. 4 event kicked off with The Honorable Katrina G. McFarland, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, who returned for the second consecutive to offer her latest thoughts on how the Pentagon is implementing open architecture practices and managing the contentious issue of data rights. Our luncheon keynote speaker, Brig. Gen. Kenneth E. Todorov, the deputy director of the Missile Defense Agency, outlined how the agency is pursuing of open architecture solutions for the vital missions it performs.
Presentations throughout the day featured Vice Adm. David Dunaway, the commander of Naval Air Systems Command, and Lt. Gen. Michael Williamson, the principal military deputy in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (AL&T), on the flag officers panel sharing their perspectives. We explored the how open architectures are impacting the electromagnetic spectrum with Mr. Frederick Moorefield, the director of spectrum policy programs in the Office of the Secretary of Defense; Dr. Richard H. Wittstruck, the acting deputy director of the Army ‘s program office for IEW&S; Mr. Troy Johnson, Director of Capabilities Integration in the Navy’s office for information dominance; and Dr. Michael Johnson of Northrop Grumman.
Additional discussions included the open business model and its importance in the development and sustainment of open architecture systems, and we took a look at commercial practices and how they can be applied to the defense sector from, among others, Mr. Jim Sheridan of Lockheed Martin and Dr. Ian Dunn of Mercury Systems. Our discussion on C4ISR included Mr. Bill Ott of Booz Allen Hamilton and Mr. Mike Danjczek of Global Technical Systems.
