DIA and SBMF to Host 10th Latin American Conference of Clinical Research
Sao Paulo (PRWEB) September 25, 2013 -- DIA and the Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Farmaceutica (SBMF) will host their 10th Latin American Conference of Clinical Research (2013): The Role of Clinical Research in the Future of Medicine from Oct. 20 to 22 at the Maksoud Plaza Sao Paulo Hotel. Through state-of-the-art educational sessions and research presentations, participants will explore and discuss the latest information on a range of clinical research topics such as improving site competence, safety risk assessment in drug development, and observational and epidemiological studies.
“This is the premier educational event in clinical research in Latin America,” said Alejandro Bermedez-del-Villar, M.A., DIA’s project coordinator of the Latin America and Global Program Development. “Medical professionals across all disciplines will have the opportunity to network and exchange ideas with colleagues from Latin America and around the world.”
The first day will consist of two pre-conference tutorials: “Risk Management and Safety Communication” and “Hands-on the Regulations for Clinical Trials in Latin America.” After the opening lecture on day two, participants will be able to attend a series of round-table plenary sessions that will further explore the future of clinical research as it relates to medicine.
Latin American Conference of Clinical Research sessions include:
- The Clinical Research System: Beyond Harmonization—A Role of Regulatory Agencies, Oct. 21, 11:20 a.m.: There is growing evidence that the current health care system in the Americas and the clinical research that guides medical decisions are not aligned. Leading experts will help identify challenges and opportunities for a harmonized regulatory system and its alignment to national and regional health care systems. This session will be co-chaired by Greg Koski, Ph.D., M.D., co-founder and president/CEO of Alliance for Clinical Research Excellence and Safety, United States, and Honorio Silva, M.D., president of Inter-American Foundation for Clinical Research, United States.
- Building a Clinical Research Infrastructure: Impact on Health Care, Oct. 22, 10:30 a.m.: Only 5 to 10 percent of all eligible adult patients are engaged in clinical research, and challenges in recruiting patients delay the completion of many trials. This session is designed to discuss the idea of integrating clinical research and clinical practice by creating a patient-centered, science-driven health care enterprise. Honorio Silva, M.D., president of Inter-American Foundation for Clinical Research, United States, and João Paulo Pieroni, department manager of Brazilian Development Bank, Brazil, will co-chair this session.
- Session 3B—Health Outcome Research and Post-Approval Clinical Epidemiology Studies, Oct. 22, 1:30 p.m.: There is a big gap between what is observed in the studies with academic or regulatory purposes and “real-world” medical practice. Participants will explore the health system’s need to adopt a new clinical research model that should generate efficient data from the best available evidence. The session will be co-chaired by Jaderson Lima, M.D., director of medical and scientific alliances at Sanofi-Aventis, Brazil, and Marcelo Vianna de Lima, M.D., medical director at Amgen, Brazil.
