Dr. Howard Glazer, Ph.D. Addresses Post Prostate Surgery Male Urinary Incontinence in an Upcoming Webinar on SEMG Assessment & Treatment
London, England (PRWEB) February 27, 2014 -- On April 9, 2014, the Biofeedback Federation of Europe welcomes Dr. Howard Glazer, an expert in the field of incontinence and pelvic floor health, to present a webinar on "Post Radical Prostatectomy Urinary Incontinence". Incontinence is something we don't usually talk about - especially male incontinence. Lately, ads have been cropping up with former professional athletes promoting masculine protection pads. In men, the prevalence of incontinence is much lower than in women, however it is a major side effect of prostate surgery and pads aren't the only solution.
Dr. Glazer's method begins with an assessment requiring the use of a rectal sensor that records a series of voluntary muscle contractions with intervening rest periods. The entire muscle evaluation process takes approximately seven minutes and the procedure is painless. After the assessment, clients are taught the exercise position, contraction type, contraction duration, and number of repetitions which maximize the exercise to normalize the patient's SEMG muscle measurements relative to their asymptomatic referenced control group. The biofeedback device employed in the exercise provides immediate feedback so that the client can gauge the accuracy and success of their training. It can be useful for men who need an understanding of the way their pelvic muscles are involved in different conditions and disorders and can help guide them to improved health. According to Dr. Glazer , “Research cited in Glazer & Lane suggests that early identification and intervention, including pre-surgical assessment, offers patients an opportunity for improved outcome.”
