Dr Tariq Drabu Praises a Recent Study From Newcastle University
(PRWEB) February 20, 2014 -- Dr Tariq Drabu is a well-known and highly respected dentist. He owns the successful Langley Dental Practice in Middleton, Manchester. In addition, he is the Clinical Lead Dentist for the Oral Surgery Clinical Assessment and treatment Services for NHS Heywood Middleton and Rochdale. For over twenty-five years he has served the community as a leading family dentist and renowned teacher to post-graduate students of dentistry.
Dr Tariq Drabu was speaking recently about a study undertaken by researchers from Newcastle University. The study shows that tooth loss can have a disastrous effect on a person’s overall health, and this includes their mental and physical health. He said, “Gifted researchers from Newcastle University have found that participants who had suffered tooth loss, also experienced other major health complications. The study reveals how important it is to correctly support patients who are suffering from tooth loss. As a practising dentist in a busy family dental practice, I understand how life-changing and effecting tooth-loss can be to an individual.”
Dr Tariq Drabu was speaking in reference to an article published recently by the Denistry Today website which reports on the study published in the journal, ‘Sociology of Health and Illness’. The article can be read in full here.
Dr Tariq Drabu continued by saying, “All the participants of the study had suffered tooth-loss and the study revealed that in some cases the loss was as serious and significant to them as that of a lost limb. This is important research and I have urged my staff and students to read it. I believe it is important that we are fully aware of the effects tooth-loss can have on a patient’s physical and emotional well-being. In order to treat our patients effectively, we must have a full understanding and appreciation of how difficult serious dental problems can be to every aspect of life. This is why I have always worked hard to ensure Langley patients are given the time and support when going through treatments. By ensuring they understand the procedures they are better able to cope with the effects of them. It is also another indicator of how important good dental care is to overall health.”
Dr Tariq Drabu closed by saying, “It is important that we understand that tooth loss can affect patients in very different ways. While some may just accept it and move on, others can be seriously upset and in extreme cases, be afraid of leaving their homes. This study proves beyond any doubt that good dental care involves far more than working on teeth and gums. It is just as important to communicate with patients and show concern for their feelings and emotional welfare. I am proud to say that this is a service our patients at Langley do receive. Although it is an extremely busy family practice we always take the time to give our patients the proper care and attention they need. When treating a family over many years, we have the opportunity to get to know them and give them the support they need.”
